Her hair was long, wavy. I was afraid she would entwine it between the narrow spaces between the chestnut-coloured branches. Far away but still visible; was the stretched sea of quietness. Yet I could still hear the trembling of my toes, and my heartbeat. I held my hands close to my chest.
Her cherry-blossom-pink high-waisted skirt was too good to be drenched in tree sap. I watched in agony, my bloodshot eyes watching her every move. She reached up for a low vine then hoisted herself up onto a thick prickly branch.
“Don’t do it!” I exclaimed, but covered my dry lips afterwards. She would never listen.
“I’m not stupid,” she called back, and then slowly stood up on the branch. I must admit, she was cautious, only stopping to glare at me; see if I was still shaking. I was. Her hair was swinging loosely in the spring breeze. The smell of dew was in the air.
“Should I aim it now?” she asked. She was my best friend but I wasn’t about to tell her when to kill it. I hated the idea. After a few seconds of staring at each other, she turned away and sighed. She was really going to do it. She pulled back the arrow, eyeing the creature intently.
“Vivian, don’t do it. Come down; calm down. Can’t we play somewhere else?” I begged. She ignored me, so I closed me eyes instead of watching.
After all was over, I felt someone slapping me across the face. It was Vivian.
“Ivy, wake up you goose!” she was bellowing in my ear. I pulled her hands away from my now-rosy cheeks and groaned. I could feel her cheek against mine and she held my hands.
“You’re insane,” I said.
“I am,” she replied.
Vivian turned me around and I opened my eyes wide. Without noticing, I started to cry. Tears streamed in parallel lines down my face, and I sobbed into my red cardigan.
“Please, aren’t you proud of my aim, Ivy?” Vivian asked.
I walked away, weeping and distressed, the grass cushioning my pale bare feet, trying to overlook the dead lorikeet.

Okay thanks for all the answers.. I just wanted to say that my style of writing is really descriptive, and I like to read that kind of writing, so I don’t think it is fair to say that extra description is unnecessary. But it’s okay to have your own opinion on it. I really want to become a writer when I grow up, so the support from most of you is really nice and has even inspired me to write more and more of the story. I’m 12 years old, so I’ve got a long way to go. I also love reading, and find most of my inspiration from other books.
