How Do I Clean My Wooden Bench Swing?
keith asked:
I don’t know if it’s appropriate to call it a bench swing but it’s my best guess. It’s suspended by wood, instead of chains, and is part of the roof above it. It also has its own foundation because it sits on its own platform above the ground. Anyways, I was planning on cleaning it to make it look new again but the thing is, the dirt is kicked on all over and just won’t seem to completely come off. So, I thought of ways to take care of this:

So, I thought of ways to take care of this:
1. Take a scrub and scrub off as much dirt as I can and just paint over it but then the paint will be uneven because of the lumps from the dirt.
2. Wash it down with a hose, wipe off the dirt and re-paint, but then I’m afraid I might ruin the wood.
I know nothing about wood or anything related to my current situation so I’m asking you people for some help! Should sand the wood down to make it even and re-paint? Should I go ahead and hose it down? I don’t know what to do. Please help!

one word dude. pledge
3 means bush
use a cleaning wipe, thats what i do.
use a hose the let it dry
Maybe you should sand it and then repaint it.
Pledge sounds good too.
Get a pressure washer & put water & detergent in it. Home Depot might have a deck cleaner. Spray it a couple times first. Then you can paint it any color you want or just put a clear coat of deck primer on it. Hope this helps
try sanding it with a fine grit sand paper thin, wipe it with a damp cloth, let it dry then paint it.
Hosing the wood won’t hurt it if it can dry out fairly fast. Sanding would be the best, but is a long and tedious job. Being outside, you can try,Easy Off Oven Cleaner ( I only use the one in the Blue Can,Fume Free) it should remove some of the dirt, and it will remove the paint,so be care full, You can also wire brush it. You should repaint,or use a Clear Coat. You can also use a Waterproofing, but that usually takes 45 days to cure. If you do repaint, use only a Exterior High Gloss. They are the most durable of the paints.
if you have a pressure washer then that with you went to use put if you do not then good old soap and hot water the take it off. where it is on there hard then you sand paper to hlep remove it. then hose it down and let it dry. then paint it with a stain paint so that it will stay on longer don,t put house paint on yand bench because it wouldn,t hold up. i build a lot of lawn swing and benchs to sale. stain is the way to go on your wood.
